Rayagada, February 23: Under the Chairmanship of Mr.Rabi Rath, State convener of Indian Media Centre, a district level conference on” the role of media in furthering all round development of the district’ was held where more than seventy scribes both from district & block headquarters attended.
Sri Rath described the vision of IMC which was primarily meant for strengthening the capacities of the media persons, analytically beholding into the societal role of them. The national body would also thrive to liberate the media houses from the clutch of corporate houses & political parties. “This will be more of a platform for dialogue on several socio-political issues engulfing the civil society in the present context”, Rath said.
Inaugurating the conference Sri Gautam Nayak, PD, DRDA, Rayagada said that education was the key to self emancipation thus leading to self development which ultimately led to development of the community. “There is no county without development error. In the past several development schemes like IRDP, EAS, DPAP, etc were implemented. Because of obvious lacunae, modifications were brought in & in few cases nomenclature got charged. Hence, the need of the hour is to be critical of the initiatives & simultaneously be suggestive instead of fault finding. The scheme like MGNREGS can secure food for a family for few months; but it may not take the family out of BPL. The scribes can play a role of truth seeker – neither positive nor negative” said Sri Nayak.
Sri M.C.Goel, CEO & Vice-President (Works) of J.K.Paper Mills Ltd. said that the published news of journalists mattered a lot to the society. “Before you write, you must think whether your write-up will impact your children, your family, your relations positively or negatively. Then, of course, go ahead. Corporate Social Responsibility has now become a buzz word. For the past few decades J.K. has emphasized on education & established a school which is tri-lingual & principally caters to the needs of the local adibasis & daltis. J.K. also has emphasized on poor women’s empowerment process. JK Papers is still open & transparent regarding any reality check”, said Mr.Goel.
Noted Gandhian & Sarvodayee Leader Dr.Ratan Das was seriously concerned about the typology of reporting in the present context. Said he, “Many reporters to-day are putting news hardly without any views. So seldom any inspiring message goes to the society. Mahatma Gandhi can be cited as one of the best journalists world has ever produced. He could propagate sea changes in the society; instigate patriotism through his non-violent writings. The view expressed by the scribes could be instruments of change & engines of growth”. ` While Mr.Ramakanta Lenka was elected as Chairperson of IMC Rayagada chapter, Sri Deepak Kumar Prusty got elected as Secretary General & Sri Sadasiv Rajguru as Treasurer. Eight executive body members and five other officer bearers were also democratically elected to IMC Rayagada Chapter.
